Acoustic Music definitions

These definitions reflect my personal understanding based on years participating in the local music scene.

Term Meaning
Acoustic Club Similar to Folk Club but encourages a wider range of music
Acoustic Music Any song or music that is played or sung without electrical assistance. Choral works at the Albert Hall, haunting flute melodies while around a camp-fire, drumming up the moon in Sherwood or singing in the bath are all eligible.
.. Club A collection of people who share a similar interest. Usually welcome new members who are happy to abide by the Club Etiquette.
Club Etiquette What the club members consider 'polite behaviour'. If you do not know whether singing or playing along is appropriate ask before you join in. Some performers appreciate the support, some do not.
Borrowing equipment: Ask first. Some people spend more money and time on their guitar than their cars
Applauding: Do what your neighbours do.
Chatting during performances: Not polite!
Club Rules The formal rules agreed by the club members. Includes agreeing the price of entry, how the club is managed and how dissenters shall be dealt with.
Folk Club Meeting of musically inclined people to play and listen to live music.
Folk Music Music written and peformed by ordinary people. This includes the love song you wrote last week and the lullabies you sang to your baby
Sing-a-round Where all visitors are encouraged to sing. Also called 'come-all-ye'
Traditional Song One which was written before you were born. Exactly when a song becomes traditional is a subject of much debate
Traditional Style Meaningless. Each expression of a song is unique and new
